About Us
‘from the country larder’ has grown out of something I have loved doing ever since
I can remember – I have memories as a very small person helping my Mother to make
jars of jam ready for the Winter. I could only just see over the kitchen table but
loved all the neat rows with their cellophane tops and labels.
Time has moved on but
we still use local produce, some still gathered from hedgerows,as in 'Blackberry & Apple
Smoothie', and we make everything in the traditional way – slowly. We only make as much as
will fit into the classic preserving pan and we don’t use any pulped fruit or gelling agents. This
means we always achieve the rich, intense flavours that can only come by taking time over the hand
preparation of ingredients and slow cooking, flavours that have almost become a thing of the past.
We
source all of our ingredients locally whenever possible and we use sugar made from sugar beet in East Anglia.
There are all the old favourites including fruit jams, rich marmalades, pickles and chutneys – Spiced Apple
Chutney and
Piccalilli are two of our best sellers. If you like mustard try the Wholegrain Mustard with beer from the Grainstore
Brewery in Oakham and you can’t eat breakfast without our trademark Rosie’s Brown Sauce!
There is plenty of variety and
if you have a favourite that you have been unable to find – we love a challenge and will make to order. Look out this
Summer for our new product - fresh Horseradish Sauce – just as soon as it has grown in the allotment. . .
